Clapton said that he used this guitar during recording sessions for the 1998 Pilgrim album. He also said of playing this guitar that "...it has a jazz feel to it which makes it difficult to play blues on, but ideal for recording work..". He remarked that he had wanted a "Mary Kaye" for some time before he acquired this one.more

I've got a really nice 335, and then I've got the Tom Petty Rickenbacker 12-string, which I always use. My favorite guitar is a '58 Strat – and the Tele, which is really an Esquire converted to a Tele. This Epiphone I've had for about three years is just fantastic. In 1961, he was playing a nightclub called Walton’s Corner, in Chicago, and the club owner told him he needed some decent equipment. The owner fronted Luther a piggyback Fender amp and a white Stratocaster. That Strat was later loaned to Magic Sam, who made it famous. “Magic Sam took my Stratocaster to Europe and all around,” Luther reminisces. “He used it and finally he gave it back to me. I had it refinished and then it got stolen and I ain’t seen it since.”more
