His main amp was a Sears silvertone amp and he also used a Super reverb occationally on bigger gigs , the guitars were a 4 pup Kawai S180 from -64, it was a sort of a Firebird copy (see the first album cover) he also had a Kingston 4 pup from around -68 and a Teisco surf 4pup guitar , His gear is now owned by Bruce Iglauer , a friend of mine was staying at Bruce s place for some time and he got to try out his S180, pretty cool , I have 2 Kawais S180s, one stock and one slightly modified and both are killer Slide guitars hard to find but very nice early jap guitars tone wise, crappy tuners but great sustain and tone, there are lots of similar cheap jap guitars around, but the exact HDT S180 were only made in -64- I believe, there were also a 2 pup version back then called s160 aswell, Tommy Cougar http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/hound-dog-taylor-what-amp-was-he-using.199700/more
