He says " I did work with Mike Starr and Alice In Chains on their first two studio albums. The tone you hear was from a Spector NS-2 bass, Ampeg SVT-II amp head, SVT-810E cabinet and on the Dirt album I also used an ART SGX Nightbass in addition to the miked up cabinet and direct box. According to Simmons’ tech Jason Lemiere, the KISS frontman plays through Ampeg 8x10 cabinets. At (12:35), he says, Gene Simmons is “super, super loud. We point them backwards to cut the stage volume a little bit for the other guys.” Simmons uses “Just one [cabinet]. We run one cabinet, one main, one backup.”more

Compared to most of the companies on this list, Verellen is fairly new to the game. They make a variety of hand-made tube amplifiers, but the Meat Smoke model is their crown jewel. It’s an absolute beast, packing 300 watts of all-tube power for bass and guitar, along with two channels for clean and roaring, gut-punching overdrive.
