The affordable new ME-25 is packed with powerful BOSS features to make you sound like a pro, yet it’s as fun and easy to use as a stompbox. The built-in SOUND LIBRARY gives you instant access to dozens of classic and modern effects. Simply choose a category, select a variation, and play. Customize your sound with simple twists of the Drive, Tone, and Volume knobs. With COSM amp models onboard, plus Super Stack and Phrase Loop, the ME-25 is a dream processor for upstart guitarists who want great sound and ease of use.
You want a type of sound? Plug it in to a computer upload it to a memorybank. Tap the pedal, en voila. But it's just to much work. I've have this pedal 4 jars. ANd pluged it in twice.
You just don't have the room to improvise or choose a different sound on the fly.
The Boss ME-80 gives you more of a pedalboard feel with different pedals and settings AND you can connect it to a computer and upload the sound that you want. The best of two world. The Boss ME-25 is just not my cup of tea.
I only use this for the hold function as everything else sounds pretty crap. The looper is awful as doesn't quantise so don't bother with that. Oh actually, I do use the solo button if I want some more volume when the hold function is on.
I bought this being relatively new to guitar and having absolutely no knowledge of effects. It is very simple to use and offers as a great introduction to a huge amount of sounds. Of course, the sounds generated won't be of the quality you'd get from single pedals but the vast majority are certainly within use. However I'm afraid it doesn't go much further than being an introduction, the 'memory' saves become quite tedious to save and edit and switching between these saves isn't so great (which is why it is not suited for a gigging environment'. Another downside has to be its reverb which is, to be blunt, awful and also the very wacky ocatve effects. An aspect worth praise is the loop function which offers a solid 40 odd seconds of easy-to-use looping. In a nutshell, this is a beginners multi-fx unit and a beginners only.
The sound collection coming from house is a complet and realistic compendium of last 40 years electric guitar FX. And the software for edit and store is also genial. With an independent users version. Genial.
I use the ME25 for clean effects, low drive, and wacky effects. The distortion in this is laughable. Unless you want a digital sounding gain, use a different unit for gain. However the effects I use for cleans do their jobs well. Using it for flavors is its strength. I love the looper. And I love having all these effects in one box. I wouldn't buy it for $200 new. But it's worth 70 bucks if you can find one new.
The Boss Multi-Effect 25 or ME-25 is defiantly one of the best pedals out there. No need for good pickups if you are looking for a nice clean sound or a heavy overdrive. It contains an awesome built in FX pedal for that nice wah you are looking for. There is also a tuner within the pedal so it is easy to tune up no problem.
Okay, it might be a little old now and the amp modeling not the best, but the simplicity of it and how useful and versatile it is, is just amazing to me. It's a good preamp and useful in the effects loop, where i use it for modulation effects, delay and reverb.
