The Dean Caddilac Ric Ocasek used with The Cars was, according to some older articles from online I've read, was ordered for Ric by Elliot Easton when Elliot got his Dean endorsement in 1979. The guitar ordered was a white Dean Elite that started being used on The Cars 1st album tour, was thrown across the stage during a Panorama tour show, and subesquecently may have been rebuilt into a 3 pickup "Japanese Flag Graphic" configuration as seen here on "Friday's" in 1981 in support of the "Shake it Up" album. He has a 55 Les Paul double-cutaway that he uses a lot, and also an SG and a regular Les Paul, but "not a heavy one, because I can't hold 'em up. I'm too skinny." His strings are D'Addario mediums, and his amp is an Ampeg V-4, "because I can twist the midrange up a lot. I like midrange in a guitar. This was possibly Ric's only Dean guitar.more
