Regarding Jay Maisel's use of the Nikon 28-300mm lens, we found this quote by Maisel's assistant:
"He's actually been using the 28-300mm pretty much exclusively since it came out. Pros: Sharp, super-duper range, relatively cheap for the utility and quality (under $1,000); Cons: Barrel distortion (which is easily negated by Adobe RAW/Lightroom lens profile corrections). Although it's not the fastest lens out there, the D3S's ridiculous low-light capabilities gain you just as many stops in exposure, and actually do so without crippling your depth of field."
