Gamechanger Audio is a Riga, Latvia-based effects pedal and synthesizer company founded in 2016 by Ilja Krumins, Kristaps Kalva, Martins Melkis, and Didzis Dubovskis. The company has built a reputation for unconventional, engineering-driven designs that incorporate unusual physical phenomena into audio effects. Their debut product, the PLUS Pedal, introduced piano-style sustain and sostenuto functionality to electric guitar and other instruments. The PLASMA Pedal, which converts audio signals into high-voltage electrical discharges inside a xenon gas tube to produce distortion, became one of the most talked-about guitar effects of its era. A special edition, the PLASMA COIL, was developed in collaboration with Jack White and Third Man Records.
The company's product line spans guitar pedals, synthesizers, and Eurorack modules. The LIGHT Pedal is an optical spring reverb that uses infrared sensors to capture the full harmonic content of a spring reverb tank. The MOTOR Pedal and MOTOR SYNTH MKII generate sound using electromotors — spinning DC motors whose rotational speed is controlled by pitch tracking or sequencing. The BIGSBY Pedal provides polyphonic pitch-shifting, and the AUTO series offers delay, reverb, and chorus effects. On the Eurorack side, the PLASMA VOICE and PLASMA DRIVE bring the brand's high-voltage distortion technology into modular synthesis.
Gamechanger Audio's products have attracted a wide range of professional musicians, including Adam Jones of Tool, Richard Kruspe of Rammstein, Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, Pat Metheny, Phil Manzanera, and Robbie Robertson. Based in Latvia — a country with deep electronics manufacturing roots — the company designs and manufactures its products in-house.
