"Uhh... Actually, Live 9 has some really cool EQ presets with vowels, like, they have each vowel with the preset..." (1:29) (Later in the same video, Fractal mentions Operator, an Ableton Live-exclusive FM synthesizer.) "EQ Eight" is necessary for vowel presets in Ableton, and does not come included with Live Intro, so Fractal must be using at least Live Standard, if not Suite. "Operator" comes with Live Suite, but can be purchased for the less-advanced versions.more
I feel like this is kind of the standard for electronic music producers. I just like that it can be used for live performance if need be as well as for production. Works great with Novation's launchpad or any other control surface really.
Being a former Reason user, this was indeed a game-changer! In Ableton, you can really do about everything you set your mind it to. I can use my analog synth and my VSTs in this DAW with no problems what so ever! Workflow is great in arrangement-view, but let's not forget about the session-view. Session-view is a great way to start sketching on ideas right from the bat. Would recommend this for any producer out there who wants to spit out ideas fast!
In Standard, I can basically do as many tracks as my CPU can handle (in the 30s right now). The included audio effects are really underrated, especially EQ Eight and Multiband Dynamics.
Live 9 Standard is all I need really, I don't want to pay money for things I'm not going to use. I love the effects it comes with, I love how it handles plugins, I love the lay-out, I love the core library. Everything about it is brilliant in my opinion! Quick and easy to work with once you've got your head around it. Superb DAW.
I've used logic for a bit in the past and thought it was ok, but then I switched to Ableton and never went back. I switched mainly because of the good reviews and many professionals use this software. I use this for both production and DJIing. I am going to update to Ableton Live 9 Suite very soon.
