Critic Reviews

Arturia PolyBrute 12

soundonsound.com

Arturia's PolyBrute 12 is a powerhouse, showcasing a remarkable increase in polyphony and a groundbreaking keybed that allows for polyphonic aftertouch and new expressive modes. While its solid build and deeper synthesis capabilities impress, the complexity and somewhat confusing MIDI implementation can be daunting for new users. The weight and size, while contributing to its sturdiness, may be unwieldy for some. Despite these drawbacks, the PolyBrute 12's potential for unique sound creation and enhanced playability marks it as a standout synthesizer for those willing to invest the time to master its intricacies.

Arturia PolyBrute 12 review: the most powerful analogue synth?

musictech.com

Arturia's PolyBrute 12 dazzles with its innovative FullTouch keybed and a robust 12-voice architecture that enhances expressive capabilities. The powerful modulation matrix and dual filters provide incredible sound design potential, allowing for a vast sonic palette. However, the sequencer feels somewhat neglected and lacks intuitive editing, and while it handles various sounds well, its bass performance leaves something to be desired. At a premium price, the PolyBrute 12 is a formidable analogue synth, but it may only appeal to serious musicians willing to invest significantly.

"The most expressive application of aftertouch technology": Arturia PolyBrute 12 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Arturia's PolyBrute 12 synthesizer is a breathtaking evolution of its predecessor, boasting enhanced aftertouch technology and a robust 12-voice multitimbral engine that allows for rich, expressive soundscapes. The flexible digital effects and stereo signal path elevate its capabilities, making it ideal for cinematic compositions. However, its high price point places it in a competitive market, with alternatives that may offer similar features at a lower cost. While some preset organization issues remain, the PolyBrute 12 impressively merges analog warmth with digital precision, making it a top-tier choice for serious musicians.

Review: Arturia PolyBrute 12 - Analogue Expression Redefined - gearnews.com

gearnews.com

The Arturia PolyBrute 12 is a groundbreaking synthesizer that enhances expression through its innovative FullTouch keyboard mechanism and expanded polyphony. Musicians will appreciate the rich, analog sound and extensive modulation capabilities. However, its sizeable form factor and hefty price tag may be a turn-off for some. While the user interface remains largely unchanged, the new features like polyphonic aftertouch and superior build quality elevate its performance. Overall, the PolyBrute 12 is a worthy investment for serious musicians, setting a new standard in the synth world, though it may require some space and a willingness to pay for excellence.

A Masterpiece

I've had this synth for just over six weeks (at the time of writing) and it still continues to amaze me. For example, the morph function allows the creation of continuously evolving sounds. This is incredibly important. In the old days, the synth sound was just what it was: the synth sound. No matter how good it was, you got what you got. This meant there was a sonic chasm between the sound of a real instrument and those from a synth, because the sound of a real instrument automatically evolves with the nuances of performance but the synth sound was essentially static. The Polybrute 12's sounds, on the other hand, are alive.
