The best of the worst, the rest are just cursed.
I grew up on the old papery neon yellow pack of ernies with non-sealed envelopes filled with wonderful rock 'n roll gauge strings. I always used these bad boys from day one and I always return to them. I am used to the sound and feel, for better or worse... and they're still damned cheap by the case!
I use this set to play in standard and half-step down tuning, and they are great. I've using ErnieBall for over 12 years, and they never disappointed me. They sound good right after you put them on your guitar, but my favorite taste is a week old set... to me, it's when they will sound the best!
Classic feel and sound
I've always loved using Regular Slinky guitar strings! From my first purchase of these strings a few years back, they've delivered great tone every time, and given just the right amount of resistance between playing rhythm and lead parts.
First strings i started using.
You just can't go wrong with Ernie Ball. These powerful strings have great tone and are very durable. Ernie Ball strings are the only strings I use, guitar and bass. The Regular Slinky strings are great for a lot of things too, not down tuning though.
Sweetest tone (while they last)
Guitar strings are a complete different dimension. I've used packages that lasted bright for months and others which lost all their tone in a couple of weeks. Same with fragility: some of them last for months (I'm currently using a 5+ month set on my LP) and others breaking just by looking at them.
