5 Best Wireless Microphones: Superior Wireless Systems

Actually, it’s more like thinking about someone else’s gas bill. With that being said, like many of the boring parts about being a musician wire management can actually be pretty important. The only question is, how do you go about figuring out how to select the best wireless microphone system for your needs?

5 Best Acoustic-Electric Guitars: Best of Both Worlds

In today’s musical climate, being able to easily amplify an acoustic instrument is a requirement for musicians who plan on performing. The days where micing was the norm have long since passed, and now convenience is key. Due to the widespread availability of acoustic-electric instruments virtually every gigging musician who specializes in acoustic instruments is expected to plug-in. This is a double-edged sword, because while using a pickup system is way less hassle than using a microphone it can be hard to find an acoustic-electric guitar that retains an organic tone. Piezos have a tendency to sound a bit “quacky”, acoustic pickups tend to lose the rich overtones that define an acoustic guitars sound, and internal mics are prone to producing feedback at higher levels of volume.

5 Best Modeling Amps: Tonal Versatility

A dirty secret of the industry is that AXE FX rigs, or their equivalent, are actually pretty popular for many touring musicians. These are modeling amps that allow musicians to tweak a variety of different parameters in order to dial in a tone that’s as close as possible to that of the amps they own that are too fragile to take on the road. These rackmount units can easily cost thousands of dollars, so while they’re obviously not affordable for the vast majority of musicians we can use them as proof that there’s nothing objectively inferior with modeling amps. So with the increase in the capabilities of digital effects, modeling amplifiers experienced a growth in capabilities similar to that of any other electronic device. A guitar stand lets you keep your guitar out while keeping it relatively safe. It’s kind of a luxury, but once you have one you won’t ever want to go back to doing without. Imagine this, you’re sitting in your practice room hunched over your guitar running through some exercises and someone calls you from the other room. Where do you put your guitar? You can put it on a chair, but what if in your hurry to see what all the commotion is about you put it on the chair in such a way that it will go careening into the floor as soon as you set a foot out of the door. I’ve personally done this a time or two, and while it generally doesn’t hurt the guitar too bad it leads to some pretty ugly gashes in the finish.
