Jesse ‘Ed’ Davis
Jesse ‘Ed’ Davis' Gear
“He had his white Telecaster, and he was one of the first guys to cop onto the slide guitar, like ‘Statesboro Blues.'”
“Davis’ main setup was his white Tele through a tweed 4×10″ Bassman with JBLs, although he’d sometimes use a Vibro Champ in the studio.”
In the concert picture, you can see that JED's Tele is unusual. It has a tremolo bridge, three mini switches, a middle pickup, and a neck pickup similar to a bridge pickup and not the typical lipstick-looking Tele neck pup. It has no pickguard or control plate.
In the close up you can see it's the same guitar with a pickguard and a third pot added.
In this Vintage Guitar article, it states he used a Fender Bassman 4×10″ Tweed with JBLs.
This article from Vintage Guitar says he used Fender Vibro Champ in the studio.
This article from Vintage Guitar has a quote from Taj Mahal that JED used a Leslie. https://www.vintageguitar.com/3362/jesse-ed-davis/
In interviews, he talked about playing with his dad's Martin in elementary school. After his dad left for work. To keep him away from the Martin, his dad gave him a second hand Stella. He then said after he was a working musician his dad gave him the Martin 0-18. It was an early 1950s model.
Here he is live and in George Harrison's session for "Can't Stop Thinking About You" 1975. The sessions shot is from the George Harrison, Twitter feed.

Note this is a different Les Paul than the other listing. This one has trapezoid inlays, and the other has block. In a 1973 interview, he mentions both a standard and classic.
JED with his strat. He used it as his slide guitar in the early to mid-70s. You can see his slide on the volume knob. You can tell it is and early 70s by the headstock.
