Gibson Quality
The workmanship on these early MIK Sheratons is bloody amazing. Comparing the neck joint on my 89 MIK Sheraton, done just like a Gibson 335, with the new Chinese Sheratons (sloppy AF) is like night and day. The fret ends have the little binding nubs like the classic 335s as well, something discarded in later models. A classic. Scratches the 335 itch, but the Sheraton is its own thing, and a wonderful instrument.
Killer V neck
Amazing hard V neck, only really found on pre-war Gibsons. My '36 L-30, named Maude, was the love of my life. Smelled like an ancient violin, responsive and kind. These were humble archtops in their time, but are wonderful things. I need another one.
Matsumoku Hippie Sandwich
Great Matsumoku made axe, with coil splitter for the humbuckers. Set neck, comfortable neck profile. A great and versatile rock and roll machine, but one can also indulge in their inner jam-band nerd fantasies showing off its alembic-style "hippie sandwich" faux-neck thru maple center block.
Unsung Japanese Gem
The SSC 500 is a versatile set neck early '80s gem. The three blade single coils are meaty and full, with three separate on/off switches. A pull coil tap on the knob gives one more traditional single coil brashness. A serious studio contender for versatility, and a very nicely made instrument.
