Cheers for the schooling, I'm very much clueless when it comes to componentry and as so often the 'those parts don't exist anymore' pops up I tend to imagine that's the reason.

You are right of course it comes down to the economics of scale, sure there are hardcore lovers who would mortgage their house to have a 2600 (sorry wife & child we're moving into the hatchback).

I wonder if they would consider a 'poll / pre-order deposit' sort of arrangement whereby people can add to the list of 'please remake this product I will buy it, here it $200 to prove it'

Absolutely agree, sadly I suspect this is one of those 'many' cases where parts / components just don't exist anymore, leading to the much debated 'circuit modeling' that certain companies are now using. Then the purists get angry, etc etc etc.

But oh man, I'd sell both my kidneys for a 2600....
