About

Amble is an Irish folk group formed by Robbie Cunningham, Oisin McCaffrey, and Ross Mc Nerney, a three-piece ensemble of singer-songwriters from the Midlands and West of Ireland. Their music centers on close vocal interplay, acoustic instrumentation, and trad-tinged songwriting, blending contemporary folk with the melodic phrasing and storytelling sensibility associated with Irish roots music. As a trio, Amble’s identity is built less around a full-band attack and more around songcraft, harmony, and intimate ensemble playing.

How to Sound Like Amble

To get close to Amble’s sound, think warm, natural, and unforced rather than polished or heavily produced. The core is clean acoustic guitar, lightly resonant and full-bodied, with arrangements that leave space for interlocking vocals and lyrical clarity. Their folk approach leans on subtle dynamics, steady strumming or gently picked patterns, and a live-room sense of closeness instead of dense layering or obvious studio effects. If you’re arranging in this style, prioritize tight vocal harmonies, understated accompaniment, and organic performances; a touch of room reverb can help, but the overall feel should stay dry enough to sound direct and human, with emotion carried by phrasing and ensemble blend rather than dramatic production.
