About
Angra is a pioneering Brazilian metal band formed in 1991 in São Paulo. Known for their eclectic fusion of progressive metal, power metal, and neoclassical elements, Angra incorporates Brazilian folk influences into their sound, setting them apart in the metal scene. The band is comprised of Fabio Lione (vocals), Rafael Bittencourt (guitars, vocals), Felipe Andreoli (bass), Marcelo Barbosa (guitars), and Bruno Valverde (drums). Founding member Rafael Bittencourt is a primary creative force, crafting lyrical concepts that blend with the band's rich musical tapestry. Angra's debut album, Angels Cry, gained international acclaim, particularly in Japan and Europe, and they have continued to innovate and influence the genre with each subsequent release.
How to Sound Like Angra
Angra's music is characterized by its intricate guitar work and dynamic arrangements, blending melodic and rhythmic complexity with emotional depth. Their sound often oscillates between heavy, aggressive riffs and soaring, melodic passages, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. The use of Ibanez guitars, particularly favored by former guitarist Kiko Loureiro, contributes to their precise and articulate guitar tones. Additionally, the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx 2 XL+ allows for a wide array of effects and tonal versatility, essential for capturing their progressive and symphonic nuances. The rhythmic foundation provided by Felipe Andreoli's bass and Bruno Valverde's dynamic drumming complements the harmonic layers, creating a sound that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant.
