About

Capsule is a dynamic Japanese electropop duo originating from Tokyo, consisting of Yasutaka Nakata (producer, songwriter) and Toshiko Koshijima (vocals). Since their formation in 1997, Capsule has been a pioneering force in the genres of Shibuya-kei, Japanese dance pop, and Japanese indie, known for their innovative approach to music production using virtual studios. Their sound is characterized by urban, retro-futuristic synthesizer melodies that have resonated both domestically and internationally, influencing artists such as Madeon and Porter Robinson.

How to Sound Like Capsule

Capsule’s music is defined by its vibrant, synth-driven soundscapes that blend retro and modern elements with a playful and energetic twist. Their tracks often feature crisp, electronic beats and lush, layered synths that create a sound both polished and adventurous. The duo's production is meticulous, often utilizing tools like Steinberg Cubase to craft their intricate compositions. The use of precise studio monitors, like the Yamaha NS10, ensures clarity and punch in their mixes, while the Yamaha KX61 MIDI keyboard facilitates the creation of their catchy, melodic hooks. Capsule’s sound thrives on its bright, rhythmic, and richly textured electronic palette, making use of these tools essential for replicating their distinctive style.
