The group was formed in Manhattan in 2007 by lead singer and songwriter Alex Chappo, originally from Baton Rouge, and keyboardist Chris Olson, who hails from Seattle. The band later expanded to include guitarist Dave Feddock and drummer Zac Colwell. Chappo has built a reputation for their dynamic live performances and eclectic sound, drawing inspiration from classic rock and modern indie rock landscapes.
How to Sound Like Chappo
Chappo's music is characterized by its vibrant, driving rhythms and swirling, psychedelic textures. Their sound often features jangly, overdriven guitars layered with lush keyboard arrangements that create an expansive sonic landscape. To capture Chappo's distinctive sound, musicians should focus on using analog delay and modulation effects to add depth and movement to their guitar tones. Warm, tube-driven amplifiers can provide the necessary vintage warmth that complements the band's energetic style. The drumming style is typically propulsive and dynamic, pairing well with bass lines that anchor the music without overwhelming it. Overall, Chappo’s sound thrives on a balance of rhythmic energy and textured ambiance, making use of both modern and retro influences to create an engaging and immersive listening experience.
