Cymande is a pioneering British band formed in 1971, known for their innovative fusion of funk, Afrobeat, soul, and reggae. The group originated in London and was founded by bassist Steve Scipio. The band features a diverse lineup including Ray King (vocals, percussion), Derek Gibbs (alto/soprano saxes), Pablo Gonsales (congas), Joey Dee (vocals, percussion), Peter Serreo (tenor sax), Sam Kelly (drums), Mike Rose (alto sax, flute, bongos), and Patrick Patterson (guitar). Their unique sound was influenced by the multicultural backgrounds of its members, who hailed from Guyana, Jamaica, and St. Vincent, and quickly gained recognition in the U.K. and beyond.
