About
Darkspace is a Swiss musical group renowned for their immersive blend of dark ambient and atmospheric black metal. Formed in 1999 in Berne, the band originally consisted of Wroth (vocals, guitar), Zorgh (bass, electronics), and Zhaaral (guitar, vocals). Known for their reclusive nature and sporadic live performances, Darkspace crafts expansive soundscapes that transport listeners to cosmic realms. In 2019, Zorgh departed from the band, and in 2022, Yhs joined Wroth and Zhaaral, restoring the trio's dynamic.
How to Sound Like Darkspace
Darkspace's sonic character is defined by its dense, expansive layers and celestial atmospheres. Their music often features black metal's raw intensity, infused with ambient textures that evoke a sense of the infinite. Achieving a sound akin to Darkspace requires a focus on creating vast, immersive soundscapes. This can be accomplished through the use of heavy distortion and reverb, alongside synthesized ambient drones to fill the spatial spectrum. The guitars are typically heavily distorted, with a focus on creating a wall of sound that is both haunting and ethereal. Rhythmic patterns are often fast and relentless, adding to the music's otherworldly drive, while the vocals are submerged in the mix, contributing to the band’s enigmatic aura. Layering and modulation effects play a crucial role in crafting their atmospheric depth, making use of analog delay pedals and reverb units to achieve their signature astral ambiance.
