Dengue Fever is a Los Angeles-based band that fuses the eclectic sounds of alternative rock, indie rock, garage rock, surf rock, psychedelic, and Ethiopian jazz. Formed in 2001 in the vibrant Silver Lake neighborhood, the group features Ethan Holtzman (Farfisa and Optigan organs), Zac Holtzman (vocals, guitar), Senon Williams (bass), Paul Smith (drums), David Ralicke (saxophone), and Chhom Nimol (vocals), a Cambodian pop star who delivers haunting vocals in Khmer. Their unique sound draws heavily from the '60s Cambodian rock scene, incorporating elements of garage rock, psychedelia, and the reverberated guitar lines typical of surf music, creating a soundscape that is both nostalgic and refreshingly innovative.
