About

Deux Filles is a unique musical project hailing from London, formed by Simon Fisher Turner and Colin Lloyd Tucker. Despite their British origins, the duo adopted the personas of French women, Gemini Forque and Claudine Coule, as part of an elaborate fictional backstory. This experimental group is known for their work in the ambient and experimental music genres, crafting soundscapes that are both mysterious and evocative. Active primarily in the early 1980s, Deux Filles released two albums, Silence & Wisdom and Double Happiness, which have since gained a cult following for their atmospheric and cinematic qualities.

How to Sound Like Deux Filles

To capture the ethereal and avant-garde sound of Deux Filles, focus on creating layered, textured soundscapes that blend organic and electronic elements. Their music often features dreamy, reverb-soaked guitars and subtle, melodic motifs, which can be achieved using analog delay and modulation effects. The use of synthesizers and ambient sound samples adds depth and an otherworldly feel to their compositions. Emphasizing minimalistic arrangements with a focus on mood and atmosphere over traditional song structure will help musicians approximate their distinctive style. Additionally, employing field recordings and unconventional sound sources can further enhance the experimental nature of Deux Filles' music.
