About
Drudkh is a Ukrainian metal band renowned for their atmospheric and enigmatic sound, deeply rooted in black metal with influences of folk and atmospheric elements. Formed in Kharkiv in 2002, the group was initiated by Roman Saenko (guitars, bass), known for his work with Hate Forest and Dark Ages, alongside Thurios (vocals, keyboards), also from Hate Forest and Astrofaes, and Yuriy Sinitsky (drums, keyboards) from Lucifugum. Drudkh's music often delves into themes of Ukrainian culture and mythology, drawing lyrical inspiration from the nation's poets like Taras Shevchenko. The band maintains a shroud of mystery by abstaining from interviews and rarely publishing lyrics, allowing their music to speak for itself.
How to Sound Like Drudkh
Drudkh's sound is an immersive blend of raw aggression and haunting melodies, characterized by a dense, atmospheric production. Their music often features distorted, yet melodic guitar riffs, which are achieved using instruments like the Jackson Randy Rhoads V, known for its sharp, cutting tone. The band’s compositions weave together layers of fuzzy, overdriven guitars with ethereal synths and keyboards, creating a contrast between the harsh and the serene. The drums drive the music with relentless intensity, providing a dynamic backdrop to the swirling, melancholic guitar lines. The inclusion of folk elements and ambient textures enriches their sound, resulting in a sonic landscape that is both introspective and expansive, capturing the spirit of Ukrainian folklore within the framework of black metal.
