About
For Squirrels was an alternative rock band emerging from Gainesville, Florida, in 1992. The original lineup featured Jack Vigliatura IV (vocals), Travis Tooke (guitar), Jay Russell (drums), and Bill White (bass). They carved a niche in the alt-rock scene with their emotive sound and poignant lyrics. The band saw a lineup change when Jack Greigo replaced Russell on drums, and they signed with Sony/550 Music. Despite the tragic accident in 1995 that claimed the lives of Vigliatura, White, and their manager, Tooke and Greigo continued the band's legacy with the addition of Andy Lord on bass. Their music, characterized by a blend of grunge, post-punk, and melodic rock, continues to resonate with fans of the genre.
How to Sound Like For Squirrels
For Squirrels' sound is recognized for its gritty yet melodic character, driven by energetic guitar riffs that create an engaging mix of raw power and emotional depth. The band often employed jangly, resonant guitar tones, a hallmark achieved through Travis Tooke's use of instruments like the Rickenbacker 330 Electric Guitar, which offers a bright and chiming sound perfect for cutting through the mix. The interplay of dynamic drumming and pulsating bass lines provides a rhythmic foundation that complements the soaring vocal melodies. To emulate their sound, musicians might focus on achieving a balanced yet vibrant mix of clean and overdriven tones, capturing both the urgency and the introspective nuances of their style.
