About
Frayle is an American doom metal band hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, formed in 2017 by guitarist Sean Bilovecky and vocalist Gwyn Strang. Known for their unique blend of heavy rock, doom metal, and melodic doom, the group is completed by Jon Morgan (drums) and Tim Long (bass). Frayle's music is characterized by its dark, atmospheric sound and evocative lyrical themes that explore heartbreak, anger, and resolution. With haunting melodies and intense, heavy riffs, Frayle has carved a niche within the metal scene, drawing comparisons to the ethereal qualities of bands like Cocteau Twins and Portishead.
How to Sound Like Frayle
Frayle's sound is a striking balance of melodic yet crushingly heavy elements, creating an atmosphere that feels both ethereal and intense. The layered, dense guitar tones are often achieved through the use of Gibson SG Gothic guitars paired with powerful amplifiers like the Orange Rockerverb 50 MkIII Amp Head and Matamp GT1, which provide a rich, saturated distortion. The swirling, expansive soundscapes are further enhanced by effects like the MXR M300 Reverb, which adds a haunting depth to their music. Gwyn Strang's vocals float above this heavy foundation, weaving a tapestry of siren-like melodies that cut through the mix with clarity and emotion, creating a sound that is both hauntingly beautiful and powerfully immersive.
