About
Hatari is an Icelandic performance art collective and musical group known for their provocative fusion of industrial, techno, punk, and pop elements. Formed in 2015, the group consists of Klemens Hannigan (vocalist, producer), Einar Stef (drummer, producer), and Davíð Þór Katrínarson (vocalist). Hatari's music and performances are deeply intertwined with dystopian themes and satirical political commentary, often delivered through elaborate costumes and theatrical presentations. They gained international fame with their striking performance at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, representing Iceland with the song "Hatrið mun sigra."
How to Sound Like Hatari
Capturing Hatari's sound involves embracing an aggressive, industrial sonic palette with a futuristic edge. Their music is characterized by pounding electronic beats and distorted synthesizers, often layered with heavy bass lines to create a driving, relentless energy. To emulate their sound, musicians might explore the use of synthesizers with gritty, overdriven settings, and drum machines that can deliver precise, hard-hitting rhythms. Vocal performances are intense and theatrical, combining both melodic singing and spoken word elements, often processed with effects like distortion and reverb to enhance their dramatic impact. The integration of punk-inspired rawness with the precision of electronic production creates a unique tension, crucial to achieving Hatari's bold and confrontational sound.
