HTRK is an Australian experimental group known for their haunting blend of electronic, post-punk, and ambient pop. Originating in Melbourne in 2003, the band was formed by Jonnine Standish (vocals, percussion) and Nigel Yang (guitar, electronics), following their previous band, Portraits of Hugo Perez. Initially a trio with bassist Sean Stewart, HTRK (pronounced "Hate Rock") gained notoriety for their stark, minimalist sound. After Stewart's tragic passing in 2010, Standish and Yang continued as a duo, evolving their music towards a more refined and emotionally resonant style. Their discography, including albums like Psychic 9-5 Club and Venus in Leo, showcases their ability to weave slow, mechanical rhythms with sensuous, introspective vocals.

HTRK's sonic character is defined by its bleak yet hypnotic atmosphere, characterized by dirge-like drum machine rhythms and sparse, reverberant guitar work. Their sound is both minimal and immersive, creating an eerie, dreamlike quality that envelopes the listener.
