About

Hugar is an Icelandic duo known for their ethereal and contemplative compositions that blend elements of compositional ambient, Icelandic classical, and neo-classical music. Hailing from the township of Seltjarnarnes, the group consists of Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson. Bergur’s multifaceted skills as a trombonist and collaborator with renowned artists like Ólafur Arnalds, Björk, and Sigur Rós complement Pétur’s architectural approach to music. Together, they create lush, multi-layered soundscapes that reflect the serene and expansive landscapes of their homeland.

How to Sound Like Hugar

Hugar’s sound is characterized by delicate, atmospheric textures that weave together ethereal guitars, forlorn brass, gentle piano, and elegant string arrangements. Their music often features a clean and spacious sonic environment, where subtle modulation effects and reverb are used to enhance the depth and emotion of each piece. To capture their distinctive vibe, musicians might employ ambient effects such as analog delay pedals and lush reverb units to create the expansive feel that defines Hugar's work. The use of soft, dynamic instrumentation and carefully arranged layers allows for an immersive listening experience, where each element is given room to breathe, contributing to the duo's serene and contemplative sound.
