About

Industry was a New York-based band known for their catchy yet thought-provoking blend of New Wave and synth-pop. The group consisted of Jon Carin (synthesizer, keyboards, vocals), Mercury Caronia (synthesizer, percussion, drums), Rudy Perrone (guitar, bass, vocals), and Brian Unger (guitar, vocals). Emerging in the early '80s, Industry captivated audiences with their energetic sound, highlighted by tracks like "State of the Nation," which combined bouncy keyboards with anti-war lyrics. Despite a brief stint in the limelight and the release of their album Stranger to Stranger in 1984, Industry's lasting impact remains centered on their infectious single and their unique contribution to the New Wave scene.

How to Sound Like Industry

Industry's sound is characterized by shimmering synth textures and rhythmic guitar work, creating a vibrant, danceable atmosphere with an underlying sense of urgency. Their music often features layered synthesizers, which can be attributed to Jon Carin's use of the Sequential Prophet-6 and the E-Mu Emulator II, both known for their rich, analog warmth and versatility. The band's use of dynamic percussion and driving bass lines provides a compelling backdrop for their melodic guitar hooks. Industry's ability to blend catchy pop elements with thoughtful, socially aware lyrics is amplified through the use of vintage effects and synthesizers, which add depth and texture to their engaging soundscape.
