About

Kinky is a dynamic Latin alternative band hailing from Monterrey, Mexico, known for their high-energy performances and eclectic fusion of musical genres. Formed in 2000, the group originally started as a trio with Gilberto Cerezo (vocals, guitar), Ulises Lozano (keyboards, programming), and Carlos Chairez (guitar). The lineup expanded with the addition of Omar Gongora (drums) and Cesar Pliego (bass), which helped solidify their sound. Kinky's music is a vibrant blend of electronica, alternative rock, funk, and Latin influences, reflecting their innovative approach to genre fusion and their ability to transcend musical boundaries.

How to Sound Like Kinky

Kinky's sound is characterized by a lively, danceable energy that seamlessly integrates electronic beats with rock and funk elements. Their sonic palette is both rhythmic and melodic, with driving bass lines and intricate drum patterns courtesy of Omar Gongora's use of both acoustic and electronic elements, such as the Roland SPD-SX Sampling Pad. The guitars, often layered with effects, provide a textured, yet punchy backdrop that complements the electronic components. Kinky’s music thrives on tight, syncopated rhythms and vibrant, colorful soundscapes, making their live performances as electrifying as their recordings. The fusion of these elements creates an immersive sound that is both captivating and infectious, appealing to a broad audience beyond the Latin music scene.
