About
Liekki is a Finnish band known for their unique blend of rock, pop, and iskelma (a traditional Finnish genre), creating a sound that is both hypnotic and accessible. Formed in 1999 following the disbandment of Karkkiautomaatti, the group originally included Janne Kuusela (vocals, guitar, songwriter), Vesa Lehto (drums), Teemu Soininen (bass), and Okke Komulainen (keyboards). The lineup saw a shift when Juha Kulmala replaced Lehto on drums. Liekki gained critical acclaim with their debut album Magio and continued to evolve their sound with subsequent releases, incorporating elements of prog rock and heavy metal.
How to Sound Like Liekki
Liekki's sonic character is defined by moody and atmospheric textures, where layered guitars and rich keyboards create an immersive soundscape. Their music often combines the melodic sensibility of pop with the dynamic range of rock, utilizing analog delay and reverb effects to enhance the ethereal quality of their tracks. The use of vintage tube amplifiers helps achieve a warm and organic tone, while the rhythmic yet understated bass lines provide a solid foundation. The drums, whether driven by Lehto's hypnotic style or Kulmala's intensity, add a dynamic edge that complements the band's quasi-mystical arrangements. To capture Liekki’s sound, focus on crafting textured layers and maintaining a balance between melody and atmosphere.
