About
Loose Fur is an experimental musical trio that blends elements of alternative country and freak folk to create a sound that's both eclectic and captivating. Formed from a collaboration between Jeff Tweedy of Wilco fame, renowned drummer Glenn Kotche, and the versatile multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke, the band emerged as a project where these acclaimed musicians could explore their mutual love for unconventional sonic landscapes. Known for their intricate arrangements and genre-defying compositions, Loose Fur has released works that invite listeners into a world where traditional folk melodies intertwine with avant-garde textures.
How to Sound Like Loose Fur
Loose Fur's sound is characterized by a rich, textured layering that combines lush acoustic guitars with experimental electronic elements. Jeff Tweedy's use of the Waterloo WL-14 and Collings D1 acoustic guitars delivers a warm, resonant foundation, while his electric work, often performed on a Fender Telecaster Thinline, adds a jangly yet powerful dimension. Effects like the Pro Co The Rat distortion and Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man delay contribute to the band’s ability to shift from serene to chaotic seamlessly. The rhythm section, propelled by Kotche's inventive percussion, provides an organic yet unpredictable backbone, making Loose Fur's music a dynamic exploration of sound that defies easy categorization.
