About

Mild High Club is a neo-psychedelic music project led by Alex Brettin, a Los Angeles-based musician originally from Chicago. Initially conceived as a solo endeavor, Brettin has expanded the project into a live band format. Drawing from influences such as AOR and jazz, Mild High Club's music blends elements of indie garage rock with a psychedelic twist. Since its inception in 2012, the project has released several albums, including the debut Timeline and the ambitious Skiptracing, both under the Stones Throw label.

How to Sound Like Mild High Club

To capture the dreamy, laid-back sound of Mild High Club, focus on creating a warm, analog vibe. This can be achieved through layered guitars and keyboards, often processed with tape echo and analog delay effects to add depth and texture. The guitar tones are typically smooth and slightly reverb-drenched, providing a lush backdrop for Brettin's melodic and jazzy chord progressions. The overall production embraces a lo-fi aesthetic, with a preference for vintage recording techniques and gear that contribute to the project's nostalgic feel. The rhythmic section maintains a groovy yet relaxed tempo, supporting the ethereal soundscapes without overpowering the mix. Emphasize improvisational elements and subtle dynamic shifts to fully embrace the genre-blending style of Mild High Club.
