About

Otoboke Beaver is an explosive punk-rock-garage quartet hailing from Kyoto, Japan. Formed in 2009, the band is named after a local love hotel and comprises Accorinrin (lead vocals, guitar), Yoyoyoshie (guitar, vocals), Hiro-chan (bass, vocals), and Pop (drums, vocals). Known for their high-octane performances and frenetic energy, Otoboke Beaver skillfully blend elements of garage rock, hardcore punk, and noise rock. Their lyrics, often delivered in rapid-fire Japanese and Kyoto slang, encapsulate the raw, rebellious spirit of the riot grrrl movement, while their sound channels the intensity of both J-rock and Japanese punk rock.

How to Sound Like Otoboke Beaver

Otoboke Beaver’s sonic character is defined by its aggressive and chaotic energy, with each track delivering a punchy, adrenaline-fueled experience. The guitars, played by Yoyoyoshie, often employ a sharp, overdriven tone, likely achieved through the use of a Gibson SG Standard and distortion pedals such as the Pro Co Fat Rat. This creates a gritty and biting sound that complements their intense, rhythmic drumming and driving bass lines provided by Hiro-chan on a Gibson Thunderbird IV. Their music thrives on its dynamic interplay and breakneck speed, making distortion and powerfully charged performance techniques essential for capturing their unrestrained punk vibrancy.
