Sandpit Members, Gear & Sound

Sandpit was an Australian indie band active from 1994 to 1998, known for their blend of noise rock, slowcore, and jangle pop. Originating from Melbourne, the group consisted of Brendan Lindsay Webb (guitar, vocals), Stephanie Ashworth (bass), and a rotating lineup of drummers including Scott Pridham, Paul Sciacca, and Greg Wales. With their evocative soundscapes and introspective lyrics, Sandpit made a significant mark on the indie music scene of the '90s, releasing notable works such as the On Second Thought LP.

Sandpit's sound is characterized by its raw yet melodic guitar work, which is both immersive and edgy. The use of a Fender Jaguar by Brendan Webb contributed to the jangly and bright tones, while the Pro Co RAT pedal added a layer of gritty distortion, giving their music a dynamic edge. Their sonic landscape is further defined by the contrasting textures of noise and melody, with the Orange OR-120 amplifier delivering a powerful and warm tube-driven sound. The bass lines, provided by Ashworth, are understated yet pivotal, weaving through the tracks to create a rich, resonant foundation that complements the expressive drumming.
