About
sHeavy is a Canadian metal band known for their distinctive blend of space rock, doom metal, and stoner rock. Formed in 1993 in St. John's, Newfoundland, the band originally consisted of Steve Hennessey (vocals), Dan Moore (guitar), Sterling Robertson (guitar), Paul Grouchy (bass), and Ren Squires (drums). Throughout their career, they've undergone lineup changes, with Keith Foley replacing Grouchy on bass in 1996. sHeavy's music is often compared to the likes of Black Sabbath, due to their heavy riffs and Hennessey's Ozzy Osbourne-esque vocal style. With albums such as Blue Sky Mind and collaborations like Born Too Late, they have carved out a niche within the metal scene, characterized by their icy hard rock tones and unique metal stylings.
How to Sound Like sHeavy
sHeavy's sound is defined by its heavy, sludge-laden guitar riffs and thick, distorted bass lines, creating a powerful and immersive sonic experience. The band's music often utilizes down-tuned guitars and tube amps to achieve a warm, gritty tone that is both aggressive and atmospheric. Their compositions are marked by slow, driving rhythms and psychedelic undertones, often built through the use of fuzz pedals and analog effects. The drumming in sHeavy's music keeps a steady, forceful beat, providing a solid backbone to their dense arrangements. Vocal delivery plays a crucial role, with dynamic, echoing vocals that add an otherworldly element to their tracks. To capture the essence of sHeavy's music, musicians can focus on crafting a layered, monolithic sound that balances vintage metal influences with modern, stoner rock sensibilities.
