Formed by guitarist and composer Makoto Ayukawa and his wife, vocalist Sheena (Etsuko Ayukawa), the group quickly became a staple of the New Wave, Pop rock, and J-rock genres. Initially completed by Toshihiro Nara (bass) and Kazuhide Kawashima (drums), the band achieved significant acclaim with hits like "You May Dream" and "Namida no Highway." Over the decades, SHEENA & THE ROKKETS have maintained their energetic live performances, continuing to influence the Japanese rock landscape with their unique blend of styles.

How to Sound Like SHEENA & THE ROKKETS

SHEENA & THE ROKKETS' sound is characterized by its raw, electrifying energy and vibrant melodies, drawing from both punk grit and pop sensibilities. The band's sonic palette is often defined by Ayukawa's use of the Gibson Les Paul Custom 'Black Beauty', which provides a rich, full-bodied tone perfectly suited for their dynamic performances. The music combines driving rhythms and catchy hooks, often infused with a hint of the rebellious spirit of early punk rock. Their lively and infectious grooves are underscored by a punchy, straightforward rhythm section, creating a soundscape that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
