About
Slackjaw is an American heavy metal trio hailing from South Carolina, known for their dynamic blend of groove metal and classic heavy metal influences. Formed in 2017, the band consists of Dallas Young (vocals, rhythm guitar, bass), Brady Riggenbach (lead guitar), and Jacob Rigdon (drums). Dallas, also known as "Soup," and Brady have been the driving force behind the band, sharing multiple roles in the studio, with Brady often stepping in as the drummer for recordings. Influenced by legendary acts like Pantera, Metallica, and Black Label Society, Slackjaw aims to carve their own legacy within the metal genre through powerful compositions and relentless energy.
How to Sound Like Slackjaw
Slackjaw's sound is characterized by heavy, groove-laden riffs and aggressive yet melodic arrangements. The band's style combines the raw intensity of groove metal with the precision and complexity of thrash, resulting in a sound that is both forceful and intricate. Their use of distorted, down-tuned guitars—often played on instruments like the ESP LTD Phoenix Black Metal—provides a thick, menacing tone, while the rhythmic drive is accentuated by tight, punchy drumming. Dallas Young's vocals add another layer of intensity, blending harsh growls with melodic overtones, aligning with the band's dedication to crafting music that is as emotionally resonant as it is technically proficient. The interplay of groove and heaviness in their compositions makes Slackjaw a compelling listen for fans of both classic and modern metal.
