Standing on the Corner is an experimental music collective hailing from Brooklyn, known for their eclectic blend of alternative hip hop, experimental hip hop, and collage pop. Founded by Gio Escobar, the group initially emerged under the name Children of the Corner in 2014. Escobar, a native New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, later joined forces with producer Jasper Marsalis (aka Slauson Malone) to craft their distinctive sound. Their music defies traditional genre boundaries, incorporating elements from free jazz, lo-fi indie rock, salsa, and more. Standing on the Corner's fluid lineup and dynamic collaborations have included work with artists like King Krule and Earl Sweatshirt, further cementing their place in the avant-garde music scene.

Standing on the Corner’s sound is characterized by its textured, collage-like production, where abstract beats and warped, lo-fi vocals intermingle with rich, unpredictable instrumentation. Their sonic palette often features the use of samplers and drum machines, like the Elektron Octatrack DPS-1, which allows for a fragmented, sample-heavy approach. The use of the Teenage Engineering OP-1 adds layers of versatile synth textures, contributing to the group’s enigmatic and ever-evolving sound.
