About

That Petrol Emotion was a dynamic band that emerged from the ashes of the Northern Irish punk scene, formed in 1984 by former members of The Undertones. The group consisted of Sean O'Neill (guitar), Reámann O'Gormain (vocals), Damian O'Neill (bass), Ciaran McLaughlin (drums), and Raymond Gorman (guitar). Known for their eclectic blend of New Wave, Jangle Pop, and Madchester sounds, the band quickly became a favorite among critics and gained a respectable following in the UK. Their music was marked by a politically charged edge and an ability to fuse a variety of independent guitar rock styles, showcased in albums like Manic Pop Thrill and End of the Millennium Psychosis Blues.

How to Sound Like That Petrol Emotion

That Petrol Emotion's sound is characterized by its vibrant and energetic guitar work, often defined by jangly, melodic riffs supported by driving rhythms. The dual guitars create a rich tapestry of sound, employing techniques such as chorus and flanger effects to add texture and depth. Their music captures a raw yet polished vibe, with tube amps providing a warm, overdriven tone that complements their engaging melodies. The bass and drums maintain a tight and propulsive groove, anchoring the band's often experimental and diverse arrangements. Musicians aiming to emulate their sound should focus on blending layered guitar harmonies with dynamic rhythmic interplay to capture the essence of their vibrant and eclectic style.
