The Artistics were a seminal Chicago-based R&B and soul group known for their silky harmonies and emotive performances that captured the essence of Northern soul, Motown, and classic soul. Formed in 1958 at Marshall High School, the original lineup featured Robert Dobyne (lead vocals), Aaron Floyd, Curt Thomas, Laurence Johnson, and Jesse Bolian. Over the years, the group saw several changes, with notable members including Marvin Smith, Tommy Green, and Fred Pettis. They achieved their biggest success after joining Brunswick Records, with hits like "I'm Gonna Miss You," which showcased their ability to blend heartfelt lyricism with infectious melodies. The Artistics left a lasting mark on the soul music landscape until their disbandment in 1973.
