About
The Fixxers are a dynamic duo formed by two Compton-based West Coast rap veterans, DJ Quik (David Marvin Blake) and AMG (Jason Lewis). Known for their contributions to the hyphy genre, The Fixxers emerged in late 2006 as a collaborative project that allowed both artists to showcase their skills as MCs and producers. DJ Quik, acclaimed for his production work with renowned artists like Jay-Z and Janet Jackson, brings his mastery of the boards to the group, while AMG adds his distinctive lyrical prowess. Together, they create a unique blend of West Coast rap energy and innovative production techniques.
How to Sound Like The Fixxers
The Fixxers' sound is characterized by its energetic and rhythmic production, seamlessly blending crisp beats with bass-heavy grooves and an unmistakable West Coast flair. Their tracks often feature clean, punchy drum patterns and layered synth textures, crafting a vibrant and infectious sonic atmosphere. Central to their production is the use of the Akai MPC series, which DJ Quik employs to program complex, engaging rhythms. The E-mu SP-1200 further enriches their sound with its gritty, vintage sampling capabilities, adding to the bold, street-savvy character of their music. These elements combined create a sound that is both melodic and rhythmic, perfect for capturing the essence of the hyphy movement.
