About

This Providence is a pop punk and emo band originating from Seattle, WA, formed in the summer of 2003. The group initially consisted of Dan Young (vocals, guitar), Gavin Phillips (guitar), Phil Cobrea (bass, vocals), and Ryan Tapert (drums). After Cobrea's departure in 2006, David Blaise took over bass duties. Known for their emotive and high-energy sound, This Providence gained momentum alongside peers in the vibrant Seattle music scene, eventually signing with Fueled by Ramen. Their music reflects a blend of pop punk and emo elements, capturing the essence of the mid-2000s neon pop punk era.

How to Sound Like This Providence

To emulate the sound of This Providence, focus on creating bright and energetic guitar tones with a hint of raw edge, often achieved through tube amps and overdrive pedals to deliver a punchy yet melodic vibe. The guitar work typically features catchy riffs and power chords, while the bass lines provide a driving force, maintaining a solid low-end presence. The drumming is characterized by its dynamic and propulsive nature, often incorporating fast-paced rhythms and spirited fills that energize their tracks. To capture their pop emo essence, consider layering clean guitar passages with subtle reverb, which adds a touch of depth and atmosphere to their otherwise straightforward and emotionally charged arrangements.
