About

Tomb Mold is a Canadian extreme metal band hailing from Toronto, formed in 2015. Known for their intense and dynamic blend of death metal, progressive metal, and grindcore, the group originally started as a duo with Max Klebanoff (drums, vocals) and Derrick Vella (guitar). The lineup expanded with the addition of Payson Power (guitar) and Steve Musgrave (bass), solidifying their sound and presence in the metal scene. Tomb Mold is celebrated for its intricate compositions and the ability to seamlessly integrate a variety of influences, ranging from the ferocity of American death metal to the atmospheric depth of Finnish metal, as well as elements of jazz fusion and prog rock.

How to Sound Like Tomb Mold

Tomb Mold's sonic character is defined by its aggressive yet atmospheric textures, where distorted guitar riffs and pummeling drum patterns create a dark, cavernous soundscape. Their music often features complex, rhythmic shifts and intricate guitar harmonies, driven by high-gain amplifiers and effects that enhance their crushing heaviness and eerie ambiance. To capture their sound, musicians might explore the use of down-tuned guitars paired with overdrive and distortion pedals for a thick, menacing tone. Analog delay and reverb effects can add the expansive, otherworldly quality that permeates Tomb Mold's music, while dynamic drumming techniques and thundering bass lines provide the relentless energy that defines their live performances. The band's ability to fuse brutality with atmospheric elements makes them a standout act in the extreme metal genre.
