About

Trik Turner is a dynamic rap rock and nu metal group originating from Phoenix, Arizona. Formed in 1999, the band initially consisted of David (DLB) Bowers and Doug (Rid) Moore on vocals, Steve Faulkner on bass, Sean Garden on drums, Danny (DBX) Marquez on turntables, Tracy (Tre) Thorstad on guitar, and Cristin Davis on guitar. Known for their angst-driven sound, Trik Turner blends the intensity and aggression of nu metal with the rhythmic delivery of rap, drawing comparisons to bands like Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach. Their self-titled album, released in 2002, showcases their ability to combine heavy riffs with infectious hooks and lyrical introspection.

How to Sound Like Trik Turner

To approximate Trik Turner's sound, musicians should focus on achieving a balance between aggressive guitar tones and rhythmic vocal interplay. The band's guitar work is characterized by driving, distorted riffs, often layered with turntable scratches and samples to add texture and depth. Utilizing high-gain amplifiers and overdrive pedals can help recreate the intense, gritty guitar presence. The rhythm section underpins this with tight, punchy drum beats and robust bass lines that provide a solid groove foundation. Employing dynamic vocal techniques, from rapid-fire rap verses to soaring choruses, is crucial in capturing the band's energetic and emotionally charged delivery. Turntables and sampling add a unique layer, enhancing the overall sonic landscape with a modern, urban edge.
