About

Warish is a gritty, Southern California-based band that blends the raw energy of stoner rock, garage punk, and stoner metal. Emerging from Oceanside in 2018, the group was founded by Riley Hawk (guitar, vocals), the son of skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, alongside Bruce McDonnell (drums). Known for their sludgy riffs and a sound that intertwines punk chaos with metal's weight, Warish captures a psychedelically sinister vibe. Their music is characterized by horror punk imagery and effect-heavy vocals, drawing inspiration from legendary acts like Scratch Acid and Butthole Surfers.

How to Sound Like Warish

Warish's sound is defined by its aggressive, gritty character and a heavy emphasis on distorted, sludgy guitar riffs. The sonic landscape they create is both chaotic and hypnotic, marked by reverb-drenched vocals and driving rhythms. Riley Hawk achieves this intense vibe using guitars like the Gibson Flying V and Gibson SG Zoot Suit, which provide the raw, powerful tones essential for their style. The use of an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer further enhances their sound, pushing the amps into rich, saturated overdrive. Warish's music thrives on a balance of gritty, punk-fueled energy and the crushing weight of stoner metal, making it both relentless and captivating.
