About

Young Prisms is a San Francisco-based band known for crafting ethereal soundscapes that merge dream pop, nu gaze, and shoegaze. Formed in 2009, the group consists of Giovanni Betteo (vocals, bass), Ashley Thomas (vocals, guitar), Jordan Silbert (guitar), and Matthew Allen (drums). Emerging from the vibrant indie scene, Young Prisms gained attention with their self-titled EP and subsequent albums, Friends For Now and In Between, released on Kanine Records. They have toured with notable acts like The Radio Dept and A Place to Bury Strangers, steadily building a following with their introspective and atmospheric sound.

How to Sound Like Young Prisms

Young Prisms' sonic character is defined by its lush, dreamy textures and hazy, immersive soundscapes. Their music relies on layered, reverberant guitars that swirl with the use of analog delay and modulation effects, creating a vast, enveloping environment. Vocals are often soft and ethereal, blending into the instrumental fabric rather than dominating it, which contributes to the overall ambient quality of their tracks. The bass and drums provide a steady yet understated backbone, allowing the shimmering guitar tones to take center stage. To approximate their sound, musicians should focus on creating rich, expansive layers with effects pedals like reverb and chorus, and aim for a balanced mix that highlights the interplay between instruments and vocals.
