About

Zabranjeno pušenje is a renowned Bosnian rock band that originated in Sarajevo in 1980. The group was formed by a collection of high school friends, including Nenad Janković (Dr. Karajlić; keyboards), Davor Sučić (Sejo Sexon; guitar), Zenit Džozić (Fu-Do; drums), Mladen Mitić (Munja; bass guitar), Dražen Janković (Seid Little Karajlić; keyboards), Ognjen Gajić (saxophone, flute), Mustafa Čengić (Muče; lead guitar), and Zoran Degan (Poka; synthesizer). The band is celebrated for its unique blend of garage rock, punk, and new wave, infused with satirical and socially conscious lyrics, which has made them a staple in the former Yugoslavian rock scene.

How to Sound Like Zabranjeno pušenje

Zabranjeno pušenje's sound is characterized by a raw, energetic rock vibe that combines gritty guitar riffs with vibrant brass elements from saxophones and flutes. Their music often features distorted guitars, which can be achieved through overdrive and fuzz pedals, delivering a powerful and unpolished edge. The use of analog synthesizers and keyboards adds layers of texture and melody, complementing their distinctive punk ethos. Drummers can emulate their rhythmic drive using a dynamic, high-energy approach with prominent snare hits and cymbal crashes, while bassists can anchor the sound with punchy, rhythmic bass lines that maintain the groove. Embracing live, unrefined production techniques will help capture the band's rebellious spirit and vibrant authenticity.
