You should stop saying "mastering". Every time you say mastering, you mean mixing. You're unlikely to ever become a mastering engineer unless you specifically choose that specialization later on for some reason, probably in lieu of production.

Also I don't think much to Izotope. They seem to spend far more on marketing than product development. I'd much rather have FabFilter if I had to choose between the two.

To answer your question, you should buy nothing until you have enough money to buy a proper pair of monitors. Don't trust anything you read online: go into a pro audio store with a wide range of current models to test your music on and base your decision on only what you hear. Remember that monitors are not your only expense when buying monitors: you will need an audio interface too.

How big is your team?

If you can find a third party API to link up to for the market price of items I think that would be very interesting information to show in both gear summary and detail views.

Maybe Google shopping has a usable API.

We are saying the same thing. That said, you can still approach this problem in one of two ways: the first is to do as you suggest and simplify the review form to one field. The second is a bit more complicated: make your form smarter and make only one field required (it doesn't matter which one) then store the one that is filled out as either the subject or body; whichever is more canonical in your system.

I think your character limit is fine. It might need lowering a little but I've seen some really shitty "reviews" which are just a single letter or a smiley/frowny face and of course this sort of content should be discouraged.

If I just want to write a summary review, e.g. Bit wobbly but haven't had any accidents yet, for a monitor stand, that should suffice. Not everyone wants to write or even read an essay on monitor stands.

It would be nice if we could see how long the moderation queue is, or even see the queue itself. It would be interesting to know how long it might take for pending submissions to be reviewed.

Every time I search for some gear I often find it duplicated at least once if not more. Some of the gear has no pro artist references whilst other versions do. Sometimes it's split 50/50 between duplicates. These duplicates need consolidating somehow but there are no community tools to do this. Is this being done by administrators?

A good example would be the "NT1A". Not only is it duplicated but it also has variants that include accessories like pop filters. I'm not sure if this really makes sense but there should probably be a rule about this, too, with respect to whether this counts as a duplicate or not.

It seems the site really only cares about pro artist gear submissions. I can't even track gear I've added nor edit it afterwards.

Yes, of course. I submitted a claim that Jody Wisternoff uses Adam A7s to compliment my other outstanding claim that he uses NS10s.
