My desert island electric guitar, if a desert island had electricity that is :)
When I began to play electric guitar back in 2009, and also being a big Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello fan, there was no question I'd start off with a Telecaster. Does just about everything I could want except vibrato a la the Stratocaster. Am in process of replacing its pickups with Zexcoil Convertibles to go noiseless without losing that single coil brightness.

Great tube amp! Not perfect, then again no amp is.
Offers all the control I could want via MIDI and has great sounds. Would have rated it 5 stars if its cleans were more Fender-ish, and if its high gain sounds were a little tighter like those of a Mesa Express amp. I can work around those minor issues to my satisfaction using EQ etc.

Great all-around bass
Great for playing slap style bass and for accompaniment with electric piano. Sings with round-wound strings or with D'Addario Chromes, but not with other flat-wound or tape-wound strings. Has lots of sounds to choose from between the bridge and neck pickups--everything except a true P-bass sound.

'cause its a j-bass, it does a true j-bass sound
and its meant to be a bit plunky, the j-bass thing is about flatwounds and how the single coils have lots of attack and light sustain to sound more like an upright (remember when Leo was inventing all these instruments)... its good for dudes who play busy, but don't just chug 8th notes... also, if you put a badass bridge or Wilkinson on it the sustain will improve substantially with flatwounds
